Sculptor
Andrew DeVries in conjunction with the Hampshire Council of
Governments presents the first ever year long outdoor exhibition
running through September 2008. The exhibition will showcase
twelve of Andrew’s largest sculptures. The sculptures
are artfully arranged on the lawn of the Old Courthouse in downtown
Northampton, MA, 99 Main Street.
An opening
reception will be held on Friday October 12th from 5:00 ~
8:00 pm. Sculptor Andrew DeVries will be there to meet and answer
questions as part of Northampton’s monthly ArtNight Out.
There will also be an interior
exhibition for the month of October that highlights and explains
the bronze casting process as well as insights into Andrew’s
career. The sculptures will be lit courtesy of Dave Balkena, lighting

His work
is privately collected throughout the world covering over a
dozen countries as well as a number of public collections here
in the United States, Ireland, and Germany.
For many years Andrew was the summer resident artist at the
Chesterwood Museum in Stockbridge, MA. He has also given numerous
casting demonstrations for other museums in the United States.
He recently returned from a residency at the Tyrone Guthrie
Center in Ireland.
One of the many things that sets Andrew apart from other sculptors
is that he casts and finishes all of his bronze sculptures himself.
His foundry is located in Middlefield, MA. Andrew specializes
in the ancient process of lost wax casting, a process that dates
back over 5,000 years. As both an artist and an artisan Andrew
brings 30 years of expertise to each detailed step of this ancient
method. Come and enjoy the sculptures for yourself! |
